Auditory Brainstem Response is a diagnostic test used to evaluate the function of the eighth cranial (Auditory) nerve. The test set-up and procedure is very similar to that used for ECoG testing. This procedure is painless, non-invasive and causes little or no discomfort; typically an ABR takes about 30 minutes to complete.
ABR is Used To:
- Identify retrocochlear pathologies such as acoustic tumors or vestibular schwannomas;
- Ivaluate auditory brainstem function;
- Estimate hearing levels in malingering or difficult-to-test patients;
- Estimate hearing levels in infants and children.
Electrodes are placed on the patient in preparation for ABR testing.
